Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation opened its first liaison office on the Chinese mainland in Beijing's Zhongguancun Science Park on March 26, marking a new era of cooperation between the two sides.

The office was set up as the brainchild of an MOU signed between Zhongguancun's administrative committee and the corporation following the 2012 Beijing-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium.

The office is expected to enhance effective communication between the two sides and open up multiple channels for cooperation in technological innovation, expertise sharing and service improvement.

Zhongguancun Science Park is home to 20,000 high-tech companies, covering areas such as digital electronics, biomedicine, new materials and advanced manufacturing. It has developed into a high-tech industry cluster focusing on research and development and incubating services.

Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corp, on the other hand, stands out in high-tech areas like green technology, electronics, information and communication, and precision engineering. It boasts first-class public technology platforms and strong synergy among its members.

With the new office in place, the two sides will bring their unique advantages into full play in order to pursue complementary cooperation and mutual benefits.

The office launch ceremony was co-organized by the Zhongguancun administrative committee and Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corp, with Yang Mengzhang, vice-president of the corporation, and other guests participating.
