Similarly, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has stepped up its efforts to expand in India, the world's fastest-growing major smartphone market. Xiaomi had 10.7 percent of the market share for smartphones by the end of 2016, creating more than 7,500 jobs in India.

Across the border, Beijing OriginWater Technology Co has signed a deal with the Pakistani government to help solve water issues, such as pollution, shortages, and water security.

Clean energy group Enlightenment launched a wind power project in Iran and has established a manufacturing center in Kenya to produce solar photovoltaic products.

Apart from sending high-tech to other countries, some 20 Zhongguancun-based startup incubators, such as Techcode, Shengjing Technology and Angelcrunch have also built branches in Israel and Germany.
