Introduction

Dehong prefecture is situated by the frontier of southwest China, with the south, west and northwest parts next to Myanmar, a country famous for its jades. It is indispensable to Silk Road in the Ming Dynasty which started directly from Ruili to Nam Kham, passing Mubang and Mong Mit. The jewelry trade between Yunnan province and Myanmar has been going on for thousands of years.

In the market economy, the jewelry industry has been developing fast over the last 20 years. In 2008, the number of businessmen from Southeast and South Asian countries such as Myanmar and India bringing with them the jewelry trade into Dehong reached 6,000. There were over 40,000 people in the jewelry industry. The volume of jewelry trade was over RMB 3.2 b yuan, accounting for 1/3 of the total Yunnan annual transactions. The transaction of raw jade was around RMB 2.0 b yuan, accounting for at least 80% of that of Yunnan province.

Rich jewelry resources provide favorable environment for developing Mang city into an international jewelry town. The town will be integrated with exhibition, auction, wholesaling, retailing and highly-processing of original, semi-finished and finished products like jade, gem, odd stone, Huanglong stone and crystal.

The International Jewelry Town features has ethnic designs running along its building exteriors, and its layout focuses on focuses on jewelry culture, thus enabling the town to strengthen the harmony of both its jewelry and ethnic culture.

It will become an important window in displaying and promoting Dehong. It will also play an essential role in improving the image of Luxi city, enriching its local culture, giving it national recognition, increasing employment rate and promote its tourism sector.

Total Investment

Total investment required is RMB 1,500 m yuan. The international jewelry town, expected to cover 186-210.6 acres, consists of a jewelry exhibition and transaction hall, jewelry culture corridor, jewelry square, business and research center, a five-star hotel, raw jade trade and processing market, finished jade products trade market, and commercial and residential buildings.
