Big data enterprises increased by more than 8,000 over the past four years in Guizhou province, according to the statistics released at the 32nd session of the 12th Guizhou Provincial People's Congress held in Guiyang on Nov 27.

In 2013, there were only less than 1,000 big data companies running in the province. After the promotion for the development and application of big data technology, big data industry skyrocketed to over 8,900 companies this year.

Contributing to more than 20 percent of the economic growth, the big data industry has become a new engine to boost regional economy.

In addition to covering software development, information service and e-commerce, big data technology also benefits government affairs.

Guizhou-Cloud Big Data Industry Co Ltd, a company owned by the Guizhou provincial government, plays an important role in sharing information, data storage, and solutions and cloud services for government and enterprises.
