Authorities in the Jiading district of Shanghai announced the opening of a demonstration zone for cross-border e-commerce at an inauguration ceremony on Nov 26, marking the district's determination to develop its cross-border e-commerce industry.
Gao Yun, head of the district, attended the ceremony and said that the launch of this cross-border e-commerce platform is in line with the development of the Shanghai free trade zone, and that more supportive policies for the platform will be carried out to ensure its further development.

The platform was approved by Shanghai Customs in November 2014. It was established by the Jiading Export Processing Zone, the KJT.com, a cross-border e-commerce company and the Shanghai Orient Electronic Payment Co. The platform, which started its trial operation back in August, is intended to offer services such as bonded warehousing, custom clearance and foreign exchange payment to cross-border e-commerce companies.
Currently, the platform houses over 30 cross-border e-commerce companies, with 20 more including JD.com planning to move in after signing agreements at the inauguration ceremony.

Local authorities said that a bonded warehouse, covering an area of 28,000 square meters, is under construction at the zone and is expected to go operational in April 2016, to better serve the platform's companies. Authorities also plan to build a smart industrial park for cross-border e-commerce with coverage of 120 mu (8 hectares), which is slated to be completed in 2017.
