Jiading district in East China's Shanghai released a five-year action plan earlier this year that stated that it will focus on the development of its precision medicine industry during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.
According to the plan, Jiading will build a manufacturing base for high-performance medical equipment and a cluster area for the health service industry. It aims for the total output value of its health and medical industry to reach 100 billion yuan ($15.54 billion) by 2025.
Qin Xiaorui, vice-general manager of Shanghai (Nanxiang) Precision Medicine Industrial Park, said that the park will offer enterprises a sound business environment and a better industrial platform to help accelerate the clinical application process of innovative projects, as well as to speed up the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements.
Shanghai (Nanxiang) Precision Medicine Industrial Park focuses on four core areas: accurate diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention. Designed to facilitate innovation, the park helps companies overcome difficulties, save money on research and development (R&D), commercialize their innovations, as well as shorten the time needed between scientific research and clinical application.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the park will strive to deepen cooperation between research institutions and enterprises, as well as attract a number of high-end research institutions and enterprises in the areas of accurate diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention, according to the plan.
The Jiading-based Shanghai Kindly Medical Instruments Company is an enterprise specializing in the R&D, as well as production and sales of interventional medical devices. It was established in the district in 2006. Besides domestic sales, its products are also sold to more than 40 countries and regions.
In recent years, the company has leveraged its pioneering role in the medical and health industry, as well as focused on the establishment of a service platform for the incubation and transformation of innovative achievements in the field of the precision medicine industry. Statistics show that Kindly has cultivated 11 subsidiary companies specializing in the R&D of interventional implanted medical devices in different therapeutic fields.
Official data show that the output value of Jiading's biopharmaceutical enterprises above designated size totaled 1.75 billion yuan in the first two months of this year, up 97.6 percent year-on-year, while that of its high-performance medical equipment and precision medicine enterprises grew by 111.8 percent year-on-year to 1.71 billion yuan.
