The latest episode of Meet from Taste, a series of short films produced by Taobao, China's largest online shopping website, tells the story of Shanxi vinegar for the first time, according to a report in Shanxi Daily.

Shot in Shanxi province, the film introduced traditional vinegar production techniques and details of the unique flavor of the aged vinegar, as well as some special dishes that can be cooked with it.

The film debuted on March 9 and was watched 600,000 times on the first day –– a record high for the series.

As a mainstay in Shanxi province, the aged vinegar enjoys a history of over 3,000 years. It is not only an indispensable seasoning for the regional cuisine, but is also used in traditional Chinese medicine.

"The aged vinegar is the most famous local product in Shanxi province. It retains great influence in the online market," said the producer of the film. "We are looking forward to further cooperation with Shanxi's e-commerce businesses and to introduce more local products onto the internet."
