Pingyao county, 90 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan Wusu International Airport, has recently opened a new satellite terminal which allows passengers to check in for their flights and take a bus the rest of the way to the airport.
The economic aggregate of Shanxi province has reached a new level. Regional GDP was 8.8 billion yuan ($1.27 billion) in 1978, 107.63 billion yuan in 1995 (exceeding 100 billion yuan for the first time), and 1.13 trillion yuan in 2011 (exceeding 1 trillion yuan for the first time).
Over the past four decades, the economic structure of Shanxi province has undergone dramatic changes. The proportion of the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors of the economy changed from 20.7:58.5:20.8 in 1978 to 4.6:43.7:51.7 in 2017.
Over the past 40 years four of reform and opening up, especially since the 1990s, Shanxi has rapidly developed its transport and communication infrastructure.
