The litigation service center of the Supreme People’s Court signed up volunteers on March 1 to better help people in need of litigation support.

The litigation service center plays an important role in implementing the principle of “judicature for the people” and providing better judicial services, said Zhou Qiang, president of the Supreme People’s Court.

His remarks were made at a signing ceremony held for volunteer recruitment in Beijing on March 1. He spoke highly of people’s courts for promoting establishment of the center and striving to provide high-quality, convenient and effective litigation services. He urged institutional innovation in offering litigants one-stop low-cost support. Zhou said that recruiting experts and volunteers will help long-term third-party participation in judicial services. He called for more innovation in exploring open and shared participation with professionals and others to popularize legal knowledge.

The voluntary experts are responsible for answering questions posed by visiting litigants and offering consultations, which is an attempt by the SPC to meet the increasing and diverse judicial demands of the people, according to Chen Jiping, deputy director of the China Law Society.

He said the China Law Society would encourage law researchers and legal professionals to help resolve disputes with accurate and authoritative legal advice.

Han Dayuan, dean of the School of Law, Renmin University of China, said the school will assign experts from its faculty and select students for voluntary training and service to assist the center.
