A court delegation from Macao wrapped up an eight-day visit to local courts in Hunan and Sichuan provinces in the Chinese mainland on Oct 27.

Li Shaoping, vice president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) and head of the Fifth Circuit Court of the SPC, had met the delegation led by Sam Hou Fai, president the Court of Final Appeals in the Macao Special Administrative Region, on Oct 24 in Sichuan.

Li outlined the comprehensive rule of law and judicial reforms in the mainland.

He said the visit will help Macao judges deepen their understanding of the court system in the mainland.

Through exchanges and communication, judges from all courts can learn from each other and make a joint effort to advance the cause of law, he said.

The 19th Party Congress has decided to establish a central leading group for advancing law-based governance in all areas to help the leadership establish the rule of law in an all-round way, added Li.

Li expressed his hopes that the courts in Macao and the Chinese mainland will increase exchanges under the "one country, two systems" principle to serve all people.

The delegation visited the Hunan High People’s Court, and the people’s court in Shaoshan and Wuhou district, exchanging views and ideas with local judges.

Sam Hou Fai said his group has a better understanding about the achievements in the law sector of the mainland after visiting courts in Shaoshan.

He said that courts in the Chinese mainland have made huge progress in judicial transparency, justice for all parties, and the building of smart courts, among other areas.

The 11-memeber Macao group visited the Chinese mainland at the invitation of Zhou Qiang, chief justice and president of the Supreme People's Court.
