Tiexi district launches spring tourism season

Tiexi district in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China’s Liaoning province, kicked off its spring tourism season with a flourish on April 3, according to local reports.

Local officials said that with an imaginative list of events scheduled, visitors could experience cultural creativity as well as get an insight into industrial progress in the district.

Recommended venues for visitors to tour include the 1905 Culture Creation Industry Park, a national 3A level tourist attraction, which was rebuilt from an old metalworking workshop in 2013.

Retaining its original architecture and main structure, the park hosts a variety of popular domestic restaurants, culture bars, themed cafes, personal studios, clubs and theatres.

Another hot venue is the Industrial Museum of China in an old factory in the Tiexi foundry, whose construction as a museum began on May 18, 2011. It is a now national 4A tourist attraction.

Housing more than 18,600 industrial collections, it now serves as a research center for industrial culture and historic Chinese industrial exhibits.

The first three pavilions, focusing on history, machinery and casting, were completed on May 18, 2012. The other seven pavilions were opened to the public on Sept 1, 2013.

The museum also has areas for dining, leisure and interactive experiences.

Elsewhere, Hongmei Cultural and Creative Park was built on the former Hongmei gourmet powder factory, which was established in 1939 and was a representative light industry enterprise in Shenyang.

Nowadays after its reconstruction, the park houses a market for cultural and creative products, an art gallery, the Shenyang Palace Museum cultural and creative products experience hall, design studios, food streets and more.

Some of the equipment from the old Hongmei gourmet factory has been retained at the park.
