Faku county lotus festival kicks off

The seventh Shenyang Faku lotus festival, as well as the first Shenyang Faku qipao competition kicked off in style on July 23 at the Liaohe Shenlongwan scenic area in Faku county, administered by Shenyang, capital of Northeast China's Liaoning province, according to local officials.

The qipao is a traditional Chinese body-hugging, one-piece dress, also known in Cantonese as the cheongsam.

Officials said that during the ongoing lotus festival, a series of events are taking place, including plays, a qipao show and competitions, a lotus flower photography contest, fishing competitions and more.

They said several awards will be given to teams participating in the qipao competition.

In addition, Faku county launched several summer tourism routes for visitors, featuring its liquor and ceramics industries, and more, to promote the local economy.
