Easier to start a war than to end one

It is wishful thinking on the part of the United States to expect the situation in Syria to evolve in a favorable direction for the US through military interference, says an article in Beijing Times. Excerpt:

History repeats itself. Just as with the preparation and publicity campaign before the Iraq War, the US government has mobilized media and allies for a "necessary" military attack on Bashar al-Assad's regime, after the Syrian government conveniently overstepped the "red line" drawn by the US.

Before the UN investigative team has reached a conclusion, the US has claimed its certainty of the Syrian government army's use of chemical weapons.

The West has already been active in providing the rebels with weapons and assistance of various forms to counter the Syrian government army's attacks.

Despite heavy civilian losses over the past two years, the US has not taken a bold step forward, until it found the rebels cannot fulfill the task.

The US has its own judgment and is habituated to bypass the UN and take unilateral actions for its own interests.

Yet, the excuse of weapons of mass destruction and the chaos of Iraq serve as reminders for the Barack Obama administration to prepare for a long-term backlash from the international community and the after-effects of its foreseeable actions in Syria.
