World trade rules should be written and abided by all

In his State of the Union address delivered on Tuesday, US President Barack Obama said: "China wants to write the rules for the world's fastest-growing region. That would put our workers and businesses at a disadvantage. ... We should write those rules." Comments:

It is the United States' long-term wish to dominate Asia-Pacific affairs and that's why its leaders always consider China as a competitor. The Obama administration is currently propelling Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement for that purpose, which will be more beneficial to the advanced economies than the developing ones.

The word "China" has appeared in every State of the Union address Obama has delivered, as many as five times in 2012. Last year, he referred to China twice, vowing to lead the economic and technological competition with it.

The US and China are the world's largest economies, in essence their economic and trade relationship is for win-win and mutually beneficial results. Rules should be written together. All nations should observe the rules without exception. China should observe them, so should the US.

Through the address, Obama is trying to correct his so-called image of being "weak", which was imposed by the media, with a series of strong diplomatic moves. However, he might face opposition from the US Congress, so compromise is almost inevitable for his ambitions.
