Fengshan in the northwestern part of Guangxi, on the southern edge of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, with Donglan county to the east; Bama Yao autonomous county to the south, Tian’e county to the north, and Lingyun and Leyue counties to the west. It has jurisdiction over nine townships and 96 villages and, by the end of 2009, a population of 215,000, in a 1,738-sq-km area. It is one of China’s most rural counties with mountains covering 70 percent and earthen hills 30 percent and a higher elevation in the northwest than in the southeast. It has a karst topography that is popular with tourists.

It has a mild, moist subtropical monsoon climate with abundant precipitation and sunshine and average annual temperatures of 20℃, annual rainfall of 1,564 millimeters and 362 frost-free days. The county has abundant resources of forest products, such as the Chinese fir, tung oil trees, camellias that are used to make oil, star anise, and chestnuts. Its mineral resources include gold, pyrite, sulfur, and an abundance of marble. Its gold is currently being mined in six townships, making it a Land of Gold, with more than 66 million tons of proven reserves. Its gold ore is high-grade for high quality products. There is also an abundance of pyrite and sulfur, making it a good place for investors.
