Chongqing's strategy of developing functional areas has seen remarkable progress in the Liangjiang New Area, as the area new seeks to opening up its port activity, according to Chongqing Daily.

Since last year, Liangjiang started to put the focus on strengthening its core functions including opening up and upgrading its industrial industry.

On Dec 25, 2014, a celebration ceremony was held at Liangjiang's Guoyuan port to mark the one-millionth container to pass through the port in one year. The Chongqing port has become the first port to surpass more than one million tons of container output on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, China's longest waterway. The landmark figure marks a substantial progress in shipping productivity in the area and the progress that Liangjiang's New Area has made in opening up to logistics and construction.

According to Tang Zongwei, vice director of the Liangjiang New Area administrative committee, the city's strategy of developing functional areas will create a better environment for the area's opening up and development. The Chongqing municipal government will give the Liangjiang New Area greater authority in terms of the management, development and construction of the area.

As a major strategic support of Chongqing's central city development, the Liangjiang New Area is now facing a considerable challenge of opening up, yet also a great opportunity. At present, Liangjiang is actively seizing the opportunity to speed up its development in the city center and the city's new area, which is currently being expanded as well as adding some new functions.
