Chongqing municipality in Southwest China currently boasts five lighthouse factories –Sany Heavy Machinery (Chongqing) Co, Chongqing Jinkang New Energy Automobile Co, Chongqing Changan Automobile Co, Chongqing Pingwei Enterprise Co, and Chongqing HKC Optoelectronics Technology Co. The former three are based in Liangjiang New Area.

The five lighthouse factories have been well-known since August of last year. Involved in automobile manufacturing, engineering machinery, electronic information and more, they are leading companies and little giants in specific areas.

The so-called lighthouse factory demonstrates the in-depth integration of digitalization and manufacturing, and has carried out substantial innovation in business operation and management systems. It reacts faster to market demand and places importance on sustainable development.

Revolving around the lighthouse factories, users, research teams, manufacturing bases, suppliers and sales sectors are coordinating with each other to provide overall solutions to relevant businesses, setting a prominent example for small and medium-sized enterprises and plants.

Jinkang SERES Liangjiang Factory, for example, follows the German Industry 4.0 standard, and possesses over 1,000 intelligent robots operating at its five processing workshops. Changan's auto manufacturing base in Liangjiang boasts an intelligence rate of over 90 percent, and SANY's lighthouse factory is the first of its kind in southwestern China.

By the end of 2021, the world had a total of 90 lighthouse factories, 31 of which were in China, more than any other country.
