First China-ASEAN Conference on Future Journalism and Communication Education kicks off in XMU

The first China-ASEAN Conference on Future Journalism and Communication Education was recently held at the School of Journalism and Communication of Xiamen University (XMU). Nearly 30 experts and scholars in the field of journalism and communication education from 10 countries, including Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand, gathered to discuss innovation, collaboration, and sustainable development in future journalism and communication education.

Professor Daya K. Thussu, president of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), stated that in the face of rapidly evolving technological advancements, it is particularly crucial to reflect on the core values of journalism and communication education.

He emphasized that peers in ASEAN's journalism and communication education sector need to strengthen collaboration to address future challenges. He also noted that this conference is very important to the establishment of a China-ASEAN academic community in journalism and communication.

"XMU is willing to work with higher education counterparts in ASEAN to engage in more practical cooperation in deepening talent cultivation, strengthening joint research, and promoting academic exchange, so as to jointly create a bright future for China-ASEAN collaboration in journalism and communication education," said Sun Li, deputy Party secretary of XMU.

Leveraging XMU's academic influence and regional cultural inclusivity, Siming district has utilized the conference to establish a regular exchange platform in the field of journalism and communication education with ASEAN countries. By strengthening educational collaboration, the district is accelerating its development into a "window" for cultural and educational resource cooperation between China and ASEAN.
