Education and teaching reform

The State Council, China's Cabinet, recently issued a document on deepening education and teaching reform and improving compulsory education quality in an all-around way, which is China's first important document focusing on education and teaching reform in the compulsory education stage.

The document advances developing quality education and building a scientific concept of quality education. To achieve those goals, it advances effective measures to deal with the prominent problems in developing quality education, improving the quality of classroom teaching, ensuring high quality and professional teachers and enhancing reforms in key fields.

The document proposes making county level compulsory education quality evaluation standards, and incorporating improving compulsory education quality in an all-around way into local officials' performance evaluations. Those local officials that fail to meet the requirements for quality compulsory education such as making investments in education and school construction will be held responsible.

To guarantee the healthy development of students in the digital era, the document advances building an inspection and supervision mechanism for the digital resources of schools.

The document calls for a good atmosphere to be created for the sustainable and healthy development of compulsory education, and giving full play to the foundational role of compulsory education in realizing the nation's great rejuvenation.
