PLA hosts 'China Day' event in Brazil

A delegation from the People's Liberation Army hosted a "China Day" event at the Higher School of Defense of Brazil in Brasilia on Monday, according to the PLA.

More than 300 officers and researchers from Brazil, military attachés in Brasilia, journalists as well as representatives from the Chinese embassy took part in the event, which was organized by a PLA international communication delegation.

Zhu Qingqiao, the Chinese ambassador to Brazil, Major Brigadier Medica Carla Lyrio Martins, commander of the Brazilian military school, and Major General Mao Naiguo, director of the publicity bureau of the Political Work Department under China's Central Military Commission and head of the PLA delegation attended the event's opening ceremony and addressed the audience.

Mao said that as an important part of bilateral relations, military exchanges between China and Brazil have deepened and expanded in recent years, with continuous cooperation in high-level officials' interactions, joint exercises and training, and personnel training.

The Chinese military has always lived up to its responsibilities and has been contributing to world peace and stability. China is willing to work with Brazil to jointly strive for a more harmonious and beautiful world, according to him.

The "China Day" activity was part of the Chinese Military Culture Week in Brazil organized by the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission.

A series of activities were held on Monday, including a photograph show, an expert workshop, a joint musical performance as well as a lecture on Chinese calligraphy.

According to Defense Ministry spokesman Senior Colonel Wu Qian, the Culture Week aims to illustrate the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, and elaborate the three initiatives, namely the Global Security Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative.

It is expected to enhance China-Brazil strategic mutual trust and traditional friendship, and step up cultural exchanges and mutual learning between the two countries, Wu said, noting that 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil.
