Buka solar project completes construction, highlighting Sino-Uzbek energy cooperation

The photovoltaic field construction of the Buka Solar Project—affectionately dubbed the Pomegranate Sunshine Station by local residents—was fully completed on June 28.

Launched in October 2024 by Dongfang Electric Corporation, or DEC, and China Datang, the project quickly achieved a significant milestone: the first phase was connected to the grid just three months later. This set a record for the fastest implementation of a large-scale PV project in Uzbekistan, highlighting the efficiency and expertise driving China–Uzbekistan energy cooperation.

To commemorate the completion, an open day event was held under the theme "Championing the China–Central Asia Spirit: Working Together for a Brighter Future."

The event welcomed representatives from the Confucius Institute at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, Narodnoe Slovo newspaper, Tashkent State Technical University, local primary schools, and village communities—reflecting broad support from educational, media, and grassroots sectors.

As part of the celebrations, DEC and China Datang inaugurated the Silk Road Energy Joint Science and Technology Innovation Center PV Research Base. This initiative underscores the steady progress of science and technology collaboration in Uzbekistan, aiming to deepen cooperation in innovation and talent development through shared resources and complementary strengths.

A "China Bookshelf" ceremony followed, during which local students received books covering Chinese literature, science and technology, language learning, and China's socioeconomic development.

The event also marked the opening of the Silk Road Joint Innovation Center New Energy Children's Science Base. Industry experts delivered dynamic, hands-on science classes that combined theory with interactive demonstrations—offering local children an engaging introduction to renewable energy.
