Xi visits exhibition commemorating 70th founding anniversary of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region

URUMQI -- On the morning of Sept 24, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, visited an achievement exhibition in commemoration of the 70th founding anniversary of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. Xi emphasized that the sweeping changes in Xinjiang over the past seven decades are a vivid illustration of the historic process of realizing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Practice has shown that the system of regional ethnic autonomy, which was established by our Party, is entirely correct, and the Party's strategy for governing Xinjiang in the new era is sound and effective. These policies must be upheld in the long term and implemented effectively in light of new realities.

Around 10:30 am, Xi and others arrived at the Urumqi Cultural Center, where the exhibition is staged. Consisting of three sections — "A New Dawn upon a Symphony of Triumph," "Unveiling the Blueprint: Development Surges Across Tianshan Mountains," and "Beautiful Xinjiang: Forging a Glorious New Era" — the exhibition offers a panoramic view of the region's progress over the past 70 years. These remarkable achievements were made possible under the CPC's strong leadership, with robust support from across the country, and through unity, hard work, and perseverance of the people from all ethnic groups in Xinjiang.

The exhibition features a variety of exhibits, including archival footage of the establishment of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, the first tractors manufactured in October Tractor Factory, the restored indoor scenes of the original Tianshan Department Store, before-and-after photos demonstrating the success of the poverty alleviation campaign, display boards on strengthening the awareness of fostering a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, and a map of the region's ever-expanding land port network amid its opening-up drive. Xi listened attentively to explanations, pausing to take a closer look and ask detailed questions. Praising the exhibition as upbeat and inspiring, he said more people should come to visit this exhibition so that the vivid contrasts between past and present can help rally public support, strengthen the sense of community for the Chinese nation among officials and people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang, and inspire them to strive for a better life and shared prosperity.

Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Li Ganjie, He Lifeng, Wang Xiaohong, Shohrat Zakir, Shen Yiqin, Wang Dongfeng and Liu Zhenli, as well as leading officials from relevant departments of the central and state organs and other members of the central delegation, also visited the exhibition.
