Mu Xin museum preserves artist's legacy

In future, Mu Xin Museum's special shows will try to make it possible to include manuscripts of Shakespeare, Tolstoy, Goethe, Schiller, among other world greats, Chen says.

"China's museums all have art. But few has manuscripts. I want to do this because Mu Xin left so many manuscripts behind," he says.

Mu returned to his hometown from New York in 2006, and continued his writing until his death.

He was born in a wealthy family with a large collection of books and art in 1927. From his childhood, he loved painting, writing and music. He formally learned painting in Shanghai in 1946, moving to New York in 1982 to further his career.

It's the first time that the artist's large-scale exhibition is being held in China.

Alfred Corn, an American poet who is visiting the Mu Xin Museum, says, he often imagined meeting Mu in a New York street when the Chinese artist, author and poet was alive.

"More people are getting interested in Mu only after his death," Chen says.
