 Words and phrases

1.  stray from=stay away from（遠離）；stray from有時候也可以作“走失”，例如：stray from one's group 離群走散。

2.  not only……but……:通常我們遇到這個詞組的時候，它是以not only……but also……的形式出現(xiàn)。不過在英美國家，去掉also的形式出現(xiàn)的頻率更高。

3.  I watched you die:這里的die不是指“死去”，而是借die這個詞來突出主人公的“憔悴”和“萎靡”

4. damn:在英語中，人們常常用它來發(fā)泄心中的不滿。它可以是動詞，其意義為：

·譴責，例如：The critics damned the play.（評論家們譴責該劇。）

·使失敗,毀掉，例如：The expedition was damned from the start.（那次探險一開始就注定會失敗。）

它也可以作名詞，意為“詛咒”。

而在日常生活中，它被廣泛的用于口語中，意為“該死，討厭”，是一個語氣詞。例如：Damn it! I forgot to turn off the gas.（該死! 我忘關煤氣了。）
